Coal Garden
An archive of memory plants by Alexander B. Loor.
Coal Garden is not an exhibition of drawings but a spatial environment in which set
design, charcoal drawings, sound, and video come together as a single work.
Conceived by artist Alexander B. Loor, the project explores the loss of home, the
fragility of family memory, and the search for belonging in a world shaped by
displacement.
The installation unfolds as a walkable garden of memory plants, a landscape where
memories take root, fade, and transform. Charcoal drawings, an original sound
composition, scenographic elements and a video installation are presented as
complementary parts of one environment, creating a dialogue between image, space,
sound, and time.
The work brings together Alexander B. Loor, video artist Anton Zorin, and composer
José Buencamino. Rusina Lekukh developed the project’s narrative structure, shaping
its internal dramaturgy and guiding the visitor’s experience of the installation.
Moving through Coal Garden becomes a journey through traces of vanished places and
the possibility of imagining new ones. The garden serves as a metaphor for memory, a
living space where traces of the past continue to grow, disappear, and return in new
forms.
