The Monuments - The Sessions

14|04|2023

The Sessions is pleased to invite you on April 14, 2023 from 7 p.m. to the first session of the season.

Garage Jam.

The Sessions at Kühlhaus Berlin is a site-specific project initiated by Jasa Mrevlje – Pollak and curated by Mattia Varini. The Sessions is open to individual or collective art projects to create a work of art with waste materials found on location at Kühlhaus Berlin. The first session will take place on April 14th 2023, during which the artists will be in dialogue with the performance space and each other’s artworks. What will happen during the session will not be regarded as a finished artwork; rather, it will be a living thing, constantly transforming session by session, asking the artists of the following sessions to continue the work, starting there where it was left. The word session is inspired by the jazz world where jam sessions or free-flow sessions are meant to entertain the audience as well as give the opportunity to experiment with new materials in an unstructured way. The archive fever of open system architectures returns us to the era of live jazz and blues sessions, where everyone had access to the same songs, but where they flipped things until they made their own statement. Jam sessions are also a perfect ground for artists to meet and exchange ideas. While jamming the goal is to make others sound better: that requires a teamwork attitude. The idea is to use the unique characteristics of the Kühlhaus building and its historical background to create a thrilling and thought-provoking journey for both “jammers” and the audience.
